How to Look Professional During a Virtual Meeting

More people are conducting virtual meetings these days, even as people begin returning to work. Even if you are used to videoconferencing, you may be wondering if you should be doing something different for a more professional look, such as learning how to mirror virtual background in Google Meet. If you are new to the virtual world, you probably have lots of questions as to what you should wear and how you should conduct yourself to make a good impression.

Your Background Can Say A lot

One thing that many people do not think about is how the background looks. A messy environment or bad lighting can affect how others judge you as a professional. Make sure the area behind you is free of clutter, and do not sit in front of something that would be distracting. If you have a dedicated office or space, set it up so whenever you have to get on a Zoom meeting, you do not have to worry about what the background looks like.

If you move around a lot and do not have an office space, or if it is impossible to have a clear and organized background, consider using Zoom background office. You can choose the virtual background you like, and you can also add your logo.

Set Yourself Up for Success

After you do a Zoom immersive view backgrounds download, you want to make sure the lighting is right. Make sure the light behind or above you is not too bright or harsh. You also do not want to sit with a window right behind you. Choose softer lighting and make sure it is balanced so one side of your face is not more lit than the other.

Also consider the angle of the computer’s camera. Angle the camera so that it is looking slightly down on you. Center it at hairline and point it down to your eyes. Also position yourself at a place that is not too close or far away from the computer. Practice different positions before starting your meeting so you know which location looks the best.

If you are new to Zoom, also take the time to make sure you know how to mute and unmute yourself. Familiarize yourself on the technical aspects of the program so you are not fiddling around with them during the meeting.

Appearance is Important

Just because you are working from home does not mean you should look like it. However, you do not need to dress too formally, either. Business casual is appropriate. Stick to neutral and solid colors, as prints can be distracting. And definitely wear pants or jeans. Even though there is a slim chance the rest of the meeting attendees will see your bottom half, you do not want to be caught off guard in the event you have to stand up to get something.

If you are self-conscious about how you look, keep in mind that Zoom offers another helpful feature. Try the ‘touch up my appearance’ option that covers up blemishes and helps smooth the skin.
